The Jeff Johnson Scholarship Award was created to honor a man who was known for his passion for life and his work in the buildings arena and energy efficiency. Jeff was an enthusiastic, energetic energy professional throughout his career at the California Energy Commission, the DOE’s Pacific Northwest National Laboratory, and as Executive Director of New Buildings Institute.
Early in Jeff's career, he made a significant impact in the California Energy Commission's building energy efficiency standards (Title 24) as the project lead for the Nonresidential Standards. Jeff led efforts in the mid-to-late 90s in conjunction with state energy code advocates, to write a new commercial energy code that became the basis for the International Energy Conservation Code (IECC). The IECC today maintains a widely adopted progressive national model energy code.
This award honors the memory of Jeff Johnson, who died on May 15, 2005, while mountain biking near his home in the Columbia River Gorge in Oregon. Jeff lived his life doing what he loved, both at work and at play. This award intends to encourage others to live their lives to the fullest, always pursuing their dreams with passion and enthusiasm.
Initiated in 2005, the Jeff Johnson Scholarship Award is available to school age dependents of CABEC members. The purpose of this program is to help students with educational expenses for each coming school year. All dependent students of CABEC members are eligible and need only fill out an application form to be considered. Awards have been made for 2008 Scholarships. The application for the 2009 Scholarship will be posted at the end of the 2008/2009 school year. . Applicants are not restricted to an energy related field of study so each student is given equal consideration based on his or her need regardless of the student's discipline of interest. A committee is appointed each year to review all applications. The committee announces the scholarship winners in the summer of the year it is awarded.Below are those worthy individuals who stood out from the applications received since the start of this program. The CABEC Board of Directors on behalf of all CABEC members would like to offer congratulations to these outstanding students.
Thanks are also in order to all of our members that donate items and purchase items or raffle tickets to fund the scholarship program. Without your help, this worthy cause would not be possible. Thank you.
