A qualified Title 24 Consultant needs to have a strong foundational understanding of the current California Building Energy Efficiency Standards. The manuals outlining the Residential and Nonresidential Standards can be downloaded and printed from http://www.energy.ca.gov/title24/2008standards/ (approximately 700 pages). After becoming familiar with the 2008 Building Energy Efficiency Standards, you'll need to enhance your understanding of the Standards by attending seminars and classes about a variety of Title 24 topics. These are offered throughout California at various times during the year. Visit the links under "Title 24 Training & Education", below. — Title 24 Certified Energy Plans Examiner (CEPE) Certification —
Certification as a CEPE demonstrates your understanding of the compliance requirements set forth in California's Energy Efficiency Standards. It assures potential clients of your ability to proficiently perform Title 24 calculations and documentation. This Certification is achieved by passing an open manual exam. The compliance manuals and the training manual handed out at the training may be brought in to the exam. The First Time Exam consists of 60 questions covering all of the Standards and the Recertification Exam consists of 30 questions testing your understanding of the changes to the code since the 2005 Standards. Seventy five percent of the questions must be answered correctly to receive your CEPE Certification.
Exams (show link to dates) are given in Residential and/or Nonresidential categories, on separate days.
Training sessions are offered a few weeks prior to the exams to provide you opportunity to refresh your understanding of the Energy Code, answer questions you may have, and generally, prepare for the exam. Training is a full day event, and is available in-person, and by "webcast" for those who don't wish to drive and have access to high speed internet connections. Watch the web site for CEPE Training and Exams registration.
